POST COVID 19 MEASURES TO BE TAKEN AT HOME

During the COVID 19 pandemic and building enviornment, there is one question which we need to ask our self Do we need to live in fortress? or should we design intelligently and strike a balance?
Once this quarantine period is over people start moving out for work/ office/market we won't be able to live in isolation we have to seek equilibrium through design and as Designer it is our duty to embrace the solution with knowledge and abilities to provide safegaurds for person residing at home.
We have identified some key points which should be incorporated at home and home interiors.
1. Incorporating Smart Materials
Post COVID there would be demand for product and technology to sanitize surfaces. So people shall be looking forward to incorporate less maintainance materials which can resist mold and promote indoor air quality. Health sector had already learned in advance and started using anti microbial materials such as copper or corian. Many manufacturers have started integrating anti microbial coating in interior products such as Paint, Door hardware, Flooring, Faucets, door hardware and furniture.
2. Handwashing and Sanitization
Once the offices, Shops or workplace is open the home is more prone to welcome virus. One must consider additional Sink or Washbasin at entry area along with sanitizer dispensers.
3. Cleaning Protocols
We have to modify our existing cleaning protocol at home and increase cleaning frequency at entrance area in specialand keep in check stock in advance such as soap, hand sanitizer, paper towels, tissues and other cleaning products
4. Proper Ventilation at home
HVAC system are common which recirculate air. We have to consider more ventilation with outdoor air and dilute airborne contaminants and lower transmission oppurtunities. Operable windows along with HVAC systems provide simple soultion for letting in more outdoor air.
5. Maintain Humidity
Since the Virus survive better in low humidity, adjusting our HVAC system an optimal range of 40 to 60 percent humidity can be achieved. For others portable humidifiers offers a quick solution.
6. Automation
In todays time the key foucus should be to reduce exposure to germs and in this fight we have to limit the need to touch the things. We have to incorporate automation at home place such as sensor activated faucets, water dispensers, hand sanitizers.
7. Screening
To reduce the spread of virus and keep other family members like kids or elderly people safe we should have Fever screening system or small sterlization gate at entrance.
We must try to create a healthy enviorment at home by taking precautionary measures. This Post COVID 19 certainly we will see change of Business from usual but not unusual after we adpot these measures at home.
