3 TRANSFORMATIONS REQUIRED IN TRAVEL INDUSTRY - POST COVID19

3 Transformations REQUIRED DIGITAL  TECHNOLGY FOR UPCOMING TRAVEL FUTURE  -     POST COVID19

Post COVID-19 testing and health screening at airport shall be difficult and can lead to bottlenecks or queuing at airport. In order to avoid such incidents the government officials need to launch new ways or I would say they need to transform their digital technology in a way that traveller can secure hassle free travel and at same time authority are rest assured that country is safe. To securely obtain and store trusted and verified credentials of health status, the traveller should be given a digital identity in which he/she shall be sharing consent about their identity and health in advance, allowing officials to conduct risk free assessment in advance.

Health E-Passport
Till date there is no standard or fix procedure for health checkup or agreement on reopening of borders or allowing individuals to travel. The focus is shifting to risk of individual passenger and there by that passenger affecting other people. Many countries are using Thermal cameras at airport and number of symptom-tracking and contact-tracing apps now exists in many countries. But is time that health should be embedded in every aspect of travel. With the consent of passenger, travel companies and airlines should use personal data such as their age, underlying health conditions and travel history to compile an individual risk profile. European countries have begun guidelines for passenger health screening and tracking tools which offer hope of a return to relax and travel.

Touch free travel
The most visible change required in travel industry is touch free travel where a person can travel from airport to hotel check-in without touching thing. We have strict protocols while exchanging travel documents and touching surfaces while check in and check out but at this time we have to focus on risk involvement of traveller and staff. Automation across the entire sector shall be boom for this industry. Iris and Face recognition shall play major role instead of biometrics and physical fingerprints.

The digital traveller
This initiative brings together a global consortium of individuals, governments, authorities and the travel industry to facilitate safe and seamless journeys. Consortium partners can access verifiable claims of a traveller’s identity data to improve passenger processing and reduce risk. Travellers can manage their own profile, collect digital ‘attestations’ of their identity data and decide which information to share.
They also allow organizations to draw on multiple data points to efficiently assess a person’s risk profile, enabling them to manage risks in real time.

In this time of unprecedented change, governments and industry have a unique opportunity to redefine travel and build a more sustainable, agile, and resilient industry.
Ultimately, the pandemic is likely to speed up two trends that have been gathering steam for some time. One is seamless travel, where your face and body is your passport. The other is the idea of a decentralized identity. This means the individual is in possession of and controls their identity attributes, such as their date and place of birth and physical characteristics, but also travel history, health information and other data. Combined, these trends will ensure travel is enjoyable, efficient and safe.
